Building on the foundational skills from the first course, “Skim Fundamentals 2” introduces a range of intermediate tricks and maneuvers to take your skimboarding to the next level. This course covers six essential techniques that will sharpen your board control, expand your trick arsenal, and enhance your confidence on various water surfaces. With skim-specific insights, these lessons guide you through moves that bring precision, style, and flair to every ride.
1. Ollie in The Flats – Master the ollie on flat water, a key skill for popping the board off the surface and setting up for more advanced aerials.
2. Floater – Learn to ride over the wave’s lip, keeping balance and control as you “float” on top. A move that’s both impressive and versatile.
3. Lipslide – Add some edge to your skimboarding with the lipslide, where you slide the board sideways along the wave’s lip for a dynamic and stylish trick.
4. Boardslide – Perfect for adding control to your skillset, the boardslide takes on sliding your back foot towards the top of the wave for a stylish and fundamental maneuver.
5. Bottom Turn – Master the bottom turn, an essential maneuver for setting up tricks and gaining speed off the wave’s base, allowing you to control and set up each ride.
6. Chop Hop – Learn how to do a quick, controlled jump off the top of the wave which helps you achieve good stability and flow in your riding.
By the End of This Course:
– You’ll have expanded your skimboarding skill set with intermediate tricks and maneuvers.
– You’ll gain the skills and comfortability to maneuver tricks in various parts of the wave.
– You’ll be comfortable transitioning in and out of tricks, adding seamless flow to your rides.
Each video is designed to guide you step-by-step through these moves, building on your existing knowledge and pushing your skills further toward an advanced level.
I used a fin on my skimboard up until I landed my 540 Big Spin. You can gradually get smaller fins for your skimboard as you advance. Keeping a fin in until you are landing your Big Spins with control in switch position. Learning how to control landings is much easier with a fin in and results in your execution feeling and looking better. If you would like additional information on fin set-up, please do not hesitate to contact me and I’d be happy to assist you!
If you are a competitive rider, double check your association's rules for fin size and board thickness to ensure you are adhering to the correct standards. Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions regarding purchasing a board that is the right fit and size for you.
